Product Description

StarChem® EU 40% solution is an organic intermediate used primarily for the production of dimethylol ethylene urea thermosetting resins. It is also used as a scavenging agent in resin finishing to reduce the free formaldehyde in the pad bath and on the fabric. The reduction in fabric formaldehyde may be quite significant, depending on the original formula.

When melamine resins are used, the reduction—as measured by AATCC Test Method 112—may be as much as 75%.

How to Use

StarChem® EU 40% solution is easily diluted with cold water.

Application

For scavenging of fabric formaldehyde, we recommend using 2–5% of StarChem EU 40% owb. The exact amount needed would depend on many variables, but laboratory experimentation should be done to determine how much is needed. Too much StarChem EU 40% solution may decrease the performance of the thermosetting resin.

Storage

The storage of this product should be done at 50°F (10°C) or higher. If it becomes too cold, it will cause crystallization of the ethylene urea. Warming the solution will re-dissolve the crystals with no harm done.
